Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vornado 540B High-Velocity Personal Clip-On 2-Speed Air CirculatorCustomer Review: Great on a treadmill Summary: 5 StarsI clipped this fan to my treadmill and it works great. The clip is strong and the fan hasn't moved at all. The fan also is strong and keeps me cool during my workout. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Great Heavy Duty Fan Summary: 5 StarsPopped this fan on my treadmill and it works wonders. Clamp is nice and tight and sturdy. I can get up to 10 mph which is pretty stressful with lots of vibration and the fans hold tight. This is it on "high". Can get noisy, but on a treadmill while running no concern. It isn't noisy enough to drown out music or tv on treadmill. The "low" setting is nice and quiet, great while walking.
The "high" is a brisk breeze enough to keep me cool at those speeds. The "low" perfect for walking or cool-down.
Enjoy!!!
Customer Review: The only thing bigger than this fan is it's price. Powerful, but huge for a clip on. Good for a garage, but not a bed. Summary: 3 StarsWhen my last clip-on fan finally bit the dust after quite a few years, I thought I may have outgrown my night-time hotness and wouldn't need one. But alas, as much as I tried to deny it, I was as hot as ever and had to look for another fan for my headboard.
So onto Amazon.com I went and looked up all the options for clip-on fans that I could easily attach to the headboard of my bed. I double-checked my research on a couple of other sites and narrowed it down to two.. one of which was the Vornado 540B. I was seduced by the Vornado's reputation for power and it's ability to move so much air around in such a small package.
After purchasing the fan, I realized that small is a relative term. It's true that the 540B is small... when compared to an industrial sized air conditioning fan that's housed in it's own room and easily cools 37 floors in an office building. You may be able to get away with calling it small if you compare it to one of those home A/C units that sits outside on a slab of concrete. But, compared to other clip-on fans, this thing is huge.
When I first got the fan and saw the size of the box, I was all excited and thought, "Wow, this thing sure is packed well!" Thinking that the rather large size of the box contained extra packing material to keep this marvel of technology safe during shipping, I was a little taken aback when I opened the box and removed the (still well packaged) fan. That's when I realized it was bigger than my head!
I thought that maybe it just looked large and anyways, it will be clipped on to the headboard and once there, it won't be noticeable at all. Well, the clip is certainly very strong and durable so I had no problem clipping it to the thick part of my headboard.. well, it took two hands to open the clip. I'd definitely recommend keeping it away from small children and animals while it's open or it may end up as one of those bear traps in the woods and clamp down tight if it slips from your hands.
Once the fan was secured on my headboard, I turned it on and enjoyed the breeze it produced at the low setting. It definitely would do the job of keeping me cool on most nights. I then tried the hi setting and though it gave me the assurance that I'd be able to stay cool even on the warmest nights, I could no longer hear the trash truck that was emptying the trash bin right outside my window. And I think my wife tried calling to me from across the bed, but all I could see was her mouth moving and arms flailing as she tried to stay upright in the face of hurricane force winds that came out of this little Vornado!
Well, I ended up returning the fan to Amazon. A very painless and easy process by the way. My decision was made final when I went to get into bed that night and I felt as though a third person was in bed with us. It wasn't that bad actually, but the fan is certainly way too large in my opinion to act as a practical headboard fan.
It's certainly a powerful fan and quiet on the low setting. It would work well in a more open space like a garage or workshop, or perhaps even on a canopy bed where you can place it away from your headboard and head some. I kept feeling that I'd wake up and bump my head on it, being so close to my head.
Customer Review: Too large, too loud Summary: 3 StarsWas hoping to find a fan to clip to bedside to provide comfort while sleeping, however, this fan's two settings made it such that it would either blow too little or be too loud and intense. Its size also proved difficult to deal with.
In the end, I found that Holmes HACP7W 7-Inch Clip-On Personal Fan was what I was seeking.
Customer Review: Moves a lot of air and very quiet Summary: 4 StarsI purchased the Vornado 540B for my RV, to move air around a bit. The fan actually moves a large amount of air, and it does so very quietly. Since people may be trying to talk and enjoy themselves, the fan noise was important, and while not completely silent, the noise is not very bothersome at all, just a bit of background. The clip is really well done, which allows us to move it around the RV with ease. From the picture, it looks like a normal squeeze clip... but it is not. The jaws are on hinges, so they can stay flat at nearly any angle as they are opened up. This allows it to grip shelves and chairbacks, and just about anything else. The spring in the clip is amazingly strong, which is needed since the fan is no featherweight. All in all, it's a Vornado and it maintains all the things people like Vornado's for. Not bad at all.
